Cereals

Cereal cultivation plays a substantial role in European agriculture, utilizing the majority of the continents available agricultural land. Across Europe, a diverse number of cereal crops are grown with wheat being the largest by far. Other cereals include barley, rye, triticale and rice. Cereals are grown for a number of purposes, such as animal feed for livestock farming, for human consumption into products such as bread and beer, and more recently into the production of biofuels. Great care is taken in the growth of these cereals by farmers and agronomists alike to tackle yield sapping weeds, fungal diseases and insect pests.
